- China Mobile unveiled that the company will launch over 80 TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) phone models in 2010, the Sina Tech News reported on March 19, citing Wang Jianzhou, the CEO of China Mobile. Wang stated that the company is set to complete pan-China TD-SCDMA network coverage by year-end 2010, including all prefecture- and county-level cities. China Mobile's total planned capital spending for 2010 is 123.0 billion RMB (US$18.1 billion; US$1 = 6.8 RMB), 14% of which is allocated for GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and 86% of which is allocated for GSM and TD-SCDMA altogether, according to the same source.

 

- Following China Unicom's announcement that the company aims to complete pan-China WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) coverage in the first half of 2010, Guangdong Unicom, a subsidiary of China Unicom in Guangdong, recently reiterated that the company will be able to achieve full WCDMA coverage in the Guangzhou province in 2010, China's Guangzhou Daily reported on March 15. Meanwhile, Guangdong Unicom also stated that the company has completed a broadband backbone expansion project, allowing users to have data throughput of 4Mbps or higher, up from the current's 2Mbps, according to the same source.
